I mean, we didn’t raise the minimum wage or anything? How could wages be rising?
How much has the cost of living gone up in the same time?
Inflation was 2.3% since 2001… most of which was in the housing market and gasoline. Most other goods have been rather stable.
And this doesn’t even take into consideration the fact that there are many technologies that are cheaper all the time, essentially increasing the “income” of everyone. The fact that the majority of households, no matter how poor, have cell phones, tvs, a washer and dryer, air conditioning, cable tv, etc. is not built into income gains, and thus underreported.
