What Has Happened To Conservatism

Unbelievable. Even though knowing the questions that were asked to these people getting these responses are important, I think its still telling that these responses happened at all.

  1. ??? What does conservatism have to do with these ignorant people? There is a huge difference between being a Republican and being a Conservative.

BTW, I am sure you could go to an Obama rally and hear just as much nonsense.

  2. Roland…
Maybe some nonsense…but NOTHING as ridiculous as some of this junk. Pure racism madness.

  3. but but, racism is dead BST… The Republicans eradicated it years ago… 1964 I believe…

  4. These people all claim to be conservative. That’s what it has to do with conservatism Roland.

Sean Hannity feeds these people daily with garbage and ignorance, and calls it fact and conservatism. Talk radio has become the place to be for the “low hanging fruit” crowd… easy pickins. Not deriding these people at all, just making the observation, that these people are mostly uneducated, lower middle class, and resentful. They are easy targets for audience for Sean Hannity, and they have been scared to death of the ‘terrists” by Karl Rove and the Repubican party. These people are the reason GWB won in 2004, and now, they are the majority in a party that used to be mostly intellectuals. Sad day.

  5. Did you see the SNL clip last night where the “McCain-Palin supporter” came up on stage and talked about Obama…being “Egypt-an” and wanting to turn the white house into a pyramid? Hi-larious!!!

  6. This worries me more about the state of the church than anything else.

  7. Justin, you are so wrong. Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and the like are NOT Conservatives. Those people in that video are not either. They are jersey wearing members of the Republican party. True, honest Conservatives do not support most of what Bush has done. They don’t support more govco.

On another note, I am scared of the terrorists. It’s when we become lax and at ease is when they do things like 9-11.

  8. Roland, I agree with you that the conservative movement is far from what it once was and what it should be.

Roland, I disagree with you about terrorism. Preventing terrorism in this country should stop focusing on national security and should start focusing on changing our foreign policy so that people won’t want to fly planes into our buildings. We can’t kill enough of them to make them want to stop killing us.

  9. I don’t buy into the weeping “Why did they do that?” syndrome. You can wonder that about a nation state that does that but radical organizations like terrorists, no.

If anything, we need a President AND Congress that will step up and do much more to protect our boarders here in the U.S. and not be like the Mike Copes and Larry James and say things like “Do we really want to build walls around our country?” as if they don’t lock their doors to their homes or businesses.

  10. Wow… such hatred for Mike/Larry… you must be one of those anonymous spammers on his blog… at least have the balls to post your name… oh wait, i forgot from our last discussion, you still haven’t grown a pair.

  11. Hmmmm…a person named “invisible hand” telling me to post my own name. Funny stuff.

“Hatred”? Why is it that when someone disagrees it’s called “hatred”?

You know, I am just quoted THEM. That is exactly what Mike Cope said about a year ago and Larry supported him in that. No hatred, just facts.

Invisible, try a little more dialogue and a little less insults.

  12. And who is Roland?

  13. Roland? That woud be me.

  14. And I’m Invisible Hand… does it make a different if I put my name as Bobby? Do you somehow know me better? I post under the same name, which allows you develop an understanding of who I am. I’m not “anonymous” or have my name change every time I post. You have an idea of who I am and what comments belong o me. Putting a name to it adds nothing.

Who is “y”? I know who he is because he posts under the name “y”. What difference does changing his name to “Ben” do for me?

  15. “Not deriding these people at all, just making the observation, that these people are mostly uneducated, lower middle class, and resentful” — yet your statement derides. I listen to Rush and Sean everyday. I am college educated, upper middle class and grateful. Yes, grateful, not resentful, that I live in the greatest country in the world where the opportunity for wealth is there if I chose to particpate. (Or at least it was before the democrat’s October surprise.) Don’t try to categorize Sean and Rush’s listeners. You have no idea who we are.

  16. Um, Robin,

I grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. I still listen to Rush out of habit, but I cannot stand Hannity anymore. As a listener for over 10 years, there is a major difference in these guys from the old days. They have become shills for the administration. They (especially Hannity) refuse to acknowledge other points of view. When someone intelligent asks a pointed question, they (especially Hannity) yell talking points over them and cut off their mike so as to appear (to the ignorant among us) that they won the argument.

I know Rush and Hannity’s listeners… I used to be one of them. Conservatism is no longer an ideological movement. Nothing about the Republican Party anymore is conservative. Its fascist. Its this “country first” garbage that real conservatives, who distrust the government, therefore seek to shrink it, gag over. Its the fundamentalist evangelical right trying to take over the country for Jesus, something that true conservatives also loathe. But its not just the change in positions, its the complete utter lack of understanding of what they think they believe. They are fed talking points by Hannity, and taught to argue from listening to him yell over people, rather than educating themselves on their positions… reading, and reading both sides of an argument, not by pundits, but by intellectuals.

The conservative movement is now for people like those in this video. People, who because of fear and blind patriotism, vote for those who are better at stirring up irrational fear of muslims and anyone that is anti war on terror.

  17. True. Hannity is everything you say and more. Rush is a tad better and at least with Rush you get comedy and news, quotes and other you don’t hear anywhere else. But, it is true they are both just talking the party line (again, Rush less than Hannity).

I still disagree that the true conservative movement is that video. Those are republicans, not conservatives. There is a HUGE difference.

  18. I didn’t say “true conservatism” was in that video. I said that that’s what the conservative movement has become. Most people who call themselves conservative now think like those people. People like yourself, I would imagine, are hesitant to throw out the conservative label, for fear of being associated with these brainless folks.

  19. If that is what you truly believe then I guess McCain will win.

  20. I didn’t leave the Republican party; the Republican party left me… 😦

  21. Justin

I have just finished reading a book called “Liberal Fascism” by Jonah Goldberg.

He concludes, right off the bat, that even scholars don’t agree on what the word means.

  22. This is a good point Chris. The words “liberal” and “conserative” are very fluid… they change depending on the situation or culture in which you are living.

For example, America was founded on the philosophical ideology of classical liberalism. In that time, to argue that people should be free, that markets should be free, that government should be elected by the people, that was liberal. Now, we’ve taken the initial philosophy of classical liberalism, and divided it into many subcategories.

Semantics aside… these people don’t believe in limited government, and they clearly don’t believe that all people are equal. They definitely don’t believe in thinking. They are brainwashed drones who believe whatever garbage they get in their email inbox, or what they hear on talk radio. That is dangerous.

  23. I was actually referring to the word “fascism.”

  24. I’m pretty sure I know what fascism means. There are certainly different forms of it, but another word for it is “corporatism”. Its when you don’t have a free market… and the government picks and chooses companies that they prefer and gives them “incentives”.

We are there for sure now.

  25. Neal Boortz had some great quotes from some Liberals on the election. You have your video about “Conservatives” well, here is your balance of moonbats:

“The record shows that voting machines in America are rigged.”

“My friends Ken Follett and Susan Cheever are extremely worried. Naomi Wolf calls me every day. Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can’t cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves.”

“My back is also suffering from spasms, so much so that I had to see an acupuncturist and get prescriptions for Valium.”

“After having stolen the last two elections, the Republican Mafia…”

“If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it’s not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets.”

“Bush has transformed America into a police state, from torture to the imprisonment of reporters, to the Patriot Act.”

  26. “The record shows that voting machines in America are rigged.”

Probably true. But both sides do it.

Jane Fonda is an idiot. Comparing her to an average person voting for anyone is wrong. She’s a lunatic, super wealthy, hollywood person.

President Bush did bring some troops home and they are a homeland brigade. Whether or not its for a civil war, or the result of our impending economic collapse, martial law is coming soon. So, also true.

“Bush has transformed America into a police state, from torture to the imprisonment of reporters, to the Patriot Act.”

We may not be completely a police state, but we’re surely close.

I don’t feel like any of those are quite as crazy as the yahoo’s that believe Obama is one or all of these “Arab” “Muslim” “Radical Christian” “Communist” “Terrorist” etc.

  27. Ah, Justin, I didn’t take you for a loony, black helecopter conspiracry believer. Where is your proof on voting machings? If they are rigged, do you really think that everyone involved (which would be a huge amount) could keep quiet?

I assume you mean Marshall Law is coming. lol.

I don’t disagree totally with the Police State thing…our freedoms are being dismantled every day. Only thing is that when Liberals are in power and do the same thing, no one complains.

So, it’s crazy for someone to believe that OBama is a Muslim but when they think that the Republicans stole the last two elections or that Dick Cheney is going to lead soldiers in the street that is perfectly sane?????????

Please Justin, you’re better than this. Please tell me your reply was tongue in cheek.
