The Manifest(ed) Sons of God. Some leaders of the Latter Rain movement taught that as the end of the age approached, that the “overcomers” would arise within the Church. These Manifest Sons of God, ones who have come into the full stature of Jesus Christ would receive the spirit without measure. They would be as Jesus was when He was on earth, they would receive a number of divine gifts, including the ability to change their physical location, to speak any language through the Holy Spirit, and would be able to perform divine healings and other miracles. They would complete the work of God restoring man’s rightful position as was originally mandated in Genesis, and at last by coming into the full stature of Christ usher in the millennial reign of Christ.

They are coming to Nashville, a bunch this weekend, and even more this summer, to pray for forgiveness for being in a country that elected Democrats to Congress. I’m not making this up. This guy, Lou Engle, was actually featured in the movie Jesus Camp.

And more than anything, I’m upset, cause I live a mile from LP field, and I don’t want to have a million fascists clogging up the roads to my house.

Taxes and Government Spending

I’ve got a question for my readers who are of the Democrat persuasion (or anywhere left of that.. socialists and marxists are free to respond as well).

I’m going to make a broad assumption that you all want the Federal Government to spend more money on entitlements (welfare, health care, social security, etc). Obviously, there are some exceptions to the rule, but this seems to be the overarching theme of most liberal Democratic ideas. Give more money to more people that need it.

Here’s my question. If you want to give more tax revenue away to those in need, why do you also want higher taxes? The case has been made, pretty well in my opinion, that increasing taxes will end up netting less revenue for the Federal Government. If that is so, wouldn’t the smartest idea be to cut taxes to the point where it brings in the most revenue for you to spend? Let’s look at a graph courtesy of dalefranks.com

This is called “The Laffer Curve”, named after a professor at Pepperdine University (Go Wave!). The basic idea of this graph is that when your tax rate is 0%,  the federal government will bring in 0 dollars. As that tax rate increases, the amount of money the federal government brings in rises until a certain point is reached (we don’t know where that is) and revenue starts decreasing because the incentive to produce goes down as tax rates increase. So once you get to 100% tax rates, revenues are once again zero.

This is important to understanding how any income tax system works because the goal for a government is to have the lowest tax rate that brings in the most revenue. The problem is, no one knows exactly where certain tax rate delineations are on that graph.  It may very well be that the current 35% top bracket rate is at the peak of that graph. I think its obvious that its not on the other side, because as all of us know (or should) since the Bush tax cuts, revenue to the federal government has increased much faster than was even expected. The deficiet has been shrinking the past couple years (though I’m sure it will increase as the current party in control of both houses of congress is planning the biggest tax increase ever) because we CUT taxes. Cut in taxes… increase in revenue.

So I ask, why do you want higher taxes?

The only thing I can come up with is that you want to promote class warfare in order to keep yourselves in office. As long as you keep telling the poor and the lower middle class that you are sticking it to the rich, they will keep your guys in office.

Tell me I’m wrong here and that there’s some other reason besides hatred of people who produce?

Hugo Chavez, American media darling, is back in the news. Looks like now he’s moving towards collective ownership of agrarian property.

Let’s just see how that works out.

More Grilling Woes

You may remember when I discussed my very first attempts at grilling back in the fall. Well, I bought a new grill for my new place, and let’s just say its now official that I need to stay away from charcoal and raw meat. It always goes badly.

Basically, tonight, when it all comes down to it… my grill caught on fire.

I know what you’re thinking. Surely you’re mistaken Justin. Grills are built to hold fire in. Somehow tonight that wasn’t the case.

I wish I had some pictures of the grill on fire, but I was too worried I was gonna burn the apartment down. So I stood, and watched, as the entire top portion of the grill charred.

And then I cooked the burgers, but the meat was bad, so we threw them out.

Pacifism and Faith

I claim to follow Christ’s example of non violence. I know all the arguments. I know that I shouldn’t fear death for me or my family because I believe in the Resurrection. But more often than I’d like to admit, I find myself wanting retributive violence.

I opened up Drudge Report this morning and saw that Iran has captured 15 british military personnel, claiming they were in Iranian waters, while the British claim they were in Iraqi waters. The first thing I thought was, “Somebody needs to blow these guys to smithereens and I know the US will do it if Iran doesn’t let the troops go.”

I heard earlier this week about how men with ties to radical Islam are getting licenses to drive school buses, and some are currently driving school buses on this nation. I’m not gonna lie to you, when I think about terrorists taking school buses full of innocent children, it pissed me off. I want those people to die. And that’s not Christlike.

Does anyone else struggle with these feelings?
